Not bad but ...

Good app but it would be great to manage dual screens :-)

Pretty happy with that simple little software! Even supports: - Mission control - Full screen mode (which Shades doesn’t seem to support!) - Application windows overview It does not seem to work for Dashboard, strangely. Not a big deal. Also, when using two monitors, it adjust both at the same time but not in a very consistent way… Contrary to what surnom2014 write in his/her review, I am NOT noticing any interference with the partial screen grab native feature, which continues to work well for me (CMD-SHIFT-4 shortcut). I’m using OS X Mavericks.

Works perfectly

Thanks for having fixed the Brightness Slider icon when Yosemite’s theme is black :)

EDIT 22/05/2015 : One little problem : when backlight is set low (under apple’s minimum), transitions between fullscreen apps have no filter (during transitions, backlight intensity goes back to apple’s minimum, which is much higher). That means : in dark environment, when coming from / going to a fullscreen app, the screen “flashes”. (mountain lion 10.8.5, MPB 13” mid 2010) Je naurai plus à porter des lunettes de soleil le soir devant mon écran, ouf ! Cette fonctionnalité devrait être intégrée à OSX en natif. App absolument indispensable. En plus, cest gratuit. Un grand merci

Nice idea, but it doesnt work

The slider keeps jumping back to the original level of brightness, so while in theory this is a great idea, the execution is still far from perfect.

It does what it claims to perfect. I used DarkAdapted for this in the past, but this App is much simpler and easier to use. And it comes for free. A workaround with tescosuicides issue is to disable automatic brightness adjustment in the Displays preferences, then the slider keeps where you put it. Although it would be nice if Brightness Slider has the option to override the preferences as long as it is active. Great product. Thank you so much.

Minimalism at work

Does everything for brightness — and nothing else (no problems with multiple displays as described, I use it with El Capitan). Perfect solution.

Great Screen Dimmer

Works just as expected, with no extra fluff.

There appears to be a performance hit while this app is enabled. Scrolling though a (non-flash) webpage is noticably slower. Also, the mouse stays bright even though the screen dims. Kinda wonky. Check back in a few versions.

on my 2011 MBPro, the app shows 1/2 intensity when I have 1 notch on my Macs brightness meter. That means its infinitely adjustable below that level (perfect for late-night dim use in a dark room).

I was hoping to use this app to turn my iMacs backlight off completely. Then when I log in remotely with Screen Sharing, the screen would stay off, saving energy and extending the screens lifespan. Unfortunately Brightness Slider is not suitable for this. It seems the app only dims the picture drawn on the screen, rather than actually turning off the backlight. Notice how the mouse pointer outline still shows up bright white, even when the screen is dimmed all the way down. Not a bad app, but unfortunately it doesnt address my problem.

App wont open. I have it on my desktop, but thats all. I went to the support address as per the instruction when posting this review, and there is no contact nor support there.

Needs multiple monitor support

Works perfectly but only for one monitor. 5 stars if multiple monitor support was there.

Brightness of the screen can be controlled and the shortcut, menu navigation etc work great. However, the Mouse Pointer Icon remains unchanged irrespective of any Brightness level. Somebody needs to do something to fix this problem :)

pinkarton v1.2.5 · 12 years ago

This is a great app! However, when switching between full screen apps such as Safari, the brightness goes back to the default while transitioning. It goes back after the animation is over, but it is kind of annoying to have the screen "flicker" when switching apps. Besides this, it is a great app!
