Brightness Slider App Reviews

Works on all monitors!

First of all this doesnt appear to change the backlight of an LCD, which is great. Because for that you can just use your default keyboard shortcuts. This app actually modifies the brightness on the video card, which means that all your (even non Apple) monitors will be affected by this. I have a really nice monitor that for some reason I cant change the brightness for, and this fixed my problem! Great app!

Just What I Was Looking For!

Love it, I wanted something to dim the screen without having to set the energy saver... this is great! Thank you!!!

Best dimmer I have found so far

The others put some sort of shaded windows over the desktop, so when you leave the desktop to enter Mission Command and Launch Pad it reverts to the computers actual brightness until you return to your desktop. This seems to actually affect the screen brightness configuration itself, rather than through a hack. I do wish there were more configuration options, like shortcut keys, etc.

Still not like a real Apple display control

This doesnt actually dim the backlight, it uses software to just darken the colors on the screen. If youre looking for another solution but want to use F1 and F2, try shades. Its exactly like this program, execpt it has that capability. I hope one day someone can figure out how to write an app thatll tap into the monitors backlight and allow real light adjustment. Until then, this will have to kind of work...

Bravo! Excelente.

This works GREAT! Exactly what I wanted. Love the recent improvements (keyboard shortcuts).

Was working great, but now it crashes my MacBook Pro.

It was a great app - I would have given it 5 stars. But suddenly, every time I clicked on the menubar icon, my computer would go completely black and be totally unresponsive. I had to restart my computer every time (once I waited 15 minutes just to see if it would respond - it didnt). I couldnt find any virus or malware; but I still uninstalled it. Not worth the hassle.

Good app

I love this app but the "Launch at login" option still does not work.

Works great but half great on a dualhead2go

Works perfectly when not using a dualhead2go. When using a dualhead2go only the left 1920x1080 part for a 3840x1080 screen works - help? Thanks!

Works perfectly, thanks!

Needed this because the keys on my Windows Bluetooth keyboard were incorrectly mapped for brightness and this fixes that, Thanks!!

Simple Enough Control, But Fades In/Out

Im surprised Mac doesnt have this out of the box; seems like it should. Its very simple to use. I only have one problem: the setting I choose doesnt remain constant, it fades darker and lighter, like its trying to do a light adjustment. Its not always doing that consistently. It would be nice if it was consistently at the brightness setting I chose. Reminds me of the screen brightness adjustment feature my Nexus 7 has.

Absolutely perfect.

I use a program that allows me to share my mouse and keyboard with multiple machines (Basically for a multi-monitor setup, but each machine is completely independant). I was sad to find that the program I use, while absolutely phenomenal, doesnt allow the iMacs standard F1 and F2 keys to control each screen independantly, but rather only works for the machine the keyboard is tied to. However, this program does EXACTLY what I need; allows me to control each screen of my multi-monitor setup independantly from eachother, so I can have varying brightness across each system. This application works so wonderfully, I would have paid up to $5 for it. Thats how much I love it, and how invaluable it is to my useage scenario. To the folks complaining that the brightness is not constant and changes on its own; be sure to turn off Auto Brightness in your System Prefs > Display settings. The program works perfectly fine, they just have their Auto-Brightness turned on, which will effect this program.

LIFESAVER!

My brightness on my computer wasnt working. I took it to a computer store and told me they were going to have to re-install Mac OS X because they couldnt find the problem. All I wanted was my brightness to work! This app is perfect. I saved over $100. THANK YOU

brightness not sticking

I was really excited about this app because I currently use one called “brightness control” and it is great, but I wished it was in the menu bar and I would love keyboard commands. But, just like another reviewer said, for some reason when I set the brightness lower, it snaps back to a higher value. I tried finding where the brightness is auto-adjusted in the system, but I was unable to find it to try to disable it. If it helps, I’m running an external monitor out via the displayport. BTW: It doesn’t make a review unhelpful just because it is not 5 stars.

Too limited

The good: Simple control via menu bar, without adding another running application to have to traverse when choosing amoung your running applications. The bad: Insufficient range of brightness controlled, making the app essentially useless with iMacs (which are way too bright at minimum Apple setting); and no multiple-display support, which I needed.

Stopped working for my multiple monitors.

Used to dim both of my monitors, now it only dims the main one of 3!

Great app

My iMac only allowed me to lower the screen’s brightness only so much, and this let me lower it way more. Great app!

Awesome! No USB cable needed for Thunderbolt Display!

Was so bummed to plug in my new 27” Thunderbolt Dsiplay and it was SUPER DIM. Reading all over the internet it seems you have to have a USB cable to adjust the brightness. I think I have just about every cable know to man USB to something BESIDES USB to USB. Tried a couple other brightness apps, even paid for one - they didn’t work - this app did right away - so stoked!!! Saved me a trip to the store and a few bucks - thanks!

Does not support multiple monitors

Simple and works great on main monitor. Unfortunately, my other monitor is blinding me.

no multi monitor support

Only dims the main monitor. It doesn’t even have the option to choose which monitor it dims.

No multi-monitor support

Would be decent if it supported multiple monitors. I don’t even want to adjust them independently. Doesn’t adjust smoothly either. I’d be nice if it continued to adjust if you held the button down instead of having to peck at it.
